CREDITS
The Boy and the Rainbow is a mythical fairytale about a boy in search of a black dragon. To find this black dragon the boy must traverse a world of magical tribes and strange creatures. The black dragon, that he so desperately seeks, is destroying this mythical kingdom and only the boy can help. Many paths are crossed and many lessons are learned.
The Boy and the Rainbow was an experiment in choose your own adventure theatre development and creation. Alex was guided by the techniques of Robert Lepage and Allen Kaprow in the development of the script, design, and staging of the show. Using Lepage's resource based methods and conventions of Kaprow's happenings, Alex developed a script, rehearsal method, and live performance, in collaboration with LeAnn Brubaker.
The major arcana of the tarot deck was chosen as the main resource this production. The choice of this resource guided the development of the script, stage designees, production schedule, and rehearsal process. This primary resource also guided us to incorporate a chance operation into the live performance of the show. The operation used a tarot reading held with the audience at the beginning of each performance to determine the sequencing and inclusion of certain elements of the narrative and performative elements of the show.
